Parametric CAD,
free for everyone.

Mitcad is a desktop CAD application for Windows, Linux and macOS. Sketch with constraints, build features on a timeline, assemble components with joints – and change any dimension later.

The Mitcad window: a pillow block assembly with its bodies and sketches in the browser and the feature timeline below
Sketch mode: a fully constrained profile with driving dimensions and the sketch palette
Sketch. Constraints and driving dimensions, solved as you draw.
Editing an extrude: the command panel, drag handles and parameter labels, the timeline rolled back
Edit. Roll back the timeline, change a feature, watch the model follow.
The rendered view: the assembly path traced with soft shadows inside the application
Render. A path-traced view of the design, right in the window.

Features

Everything a part needs, from the first sketch.

Design intent stays in the model: every feature remembers how it was made, so a change ripples through the whole design.

Parametric history

Features on a timeline and parameters with expressions. Edit a sketch or a dimension and the model rebuilds.

Constrained sketches

Lines, arcs, splines and text with geometric constraints and driving dimensions, solved live as you draw.

Assemblies and joints

Components with joints that move them, interference and analysis tools, and a component library with a part picker.

Sheet metal

Folded parts with flanges, cuts and reliefs; unfold, refold and a flat pattern exported to DXF.

Rendered view

Path-traced images with Cycles on the CPU, CUDA on NVIDIA GPUs or Metal on macOS, with appearances and environments.

Version history

Projects keep their versions in git: go back to any earlier version and share projects through a git host.

3D printing

Send bodies straight to Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer or UltiMaker Cura, or export 3MF and STL.

Scriptable

A JSON command API, a command line tool and a Model Context Protocol server that lets AI agents build models.

Formats

Bring your designs with you.

FreeCAD and .f3d designs open with their history – features, sketches and parameters – so they stay editable. Parts, building models and the common exchange formats import and export too.

Why Mitcad

Easy to use. Open to everyone. At home on Linux.

Mitcad was started because the world still lacked a CAD application that is easy to use, imports a wide range of file formats and runs on Linux as well. It is free to use, change and share under the MIT licence – for hobby projects and commercial work alike.

  • C++17 & RustQt 6 interface, Open CASCADE geometry, a Rust model and solver
  • Signed updatesChecks once a day and offers to install a new release
  • No accountYour designs stay on your machine or in your own git repository
